Characters

Mudou Setsuna:
Setsuna is the main character in Angel Sanctuary. He's a tough young high school student who gets into fights very often. Setsuna is the reincarnation of the Organic Angel Alexiel who rebelled against heaven. For that Setsuna is doomed to die a violent death. Although he plays a very important part in the fate of the world he is more concerned about trying to find happiness between himself and his sister, Sara who he has fallen in love with.

Mudou Sara:
Sara is the younger sister of Setsuna. She is also in love with him like he loves her even though they are brother and sister. Eventually she runs away with him in search of happiness. However, when they return home, an ally of Rosiel, named Kirie attacks them. Kirie attacks Setsuna who is off his guard, but Sara jumps in front of him taking the hit that was meant for him and dies. Setsuna, in this time of grief releases his powers to destroy the world. He later travels to Hades to retrieve his sister's soul but he finds that she had be taken to heaven and is eventually placed in the body of Jibrille.

Kira Sakuya:
Kira is Setsuna's best friend and older brother type. He is often stepping in and pulling Setsuna out of fights. Setsuna refers to him as Kira-sempai because he is older. However, Kira is no ordinary boy. He is special in many, many ways. For one thing he is Nanatsusaya, the soul of Alexiel's holy sword. He reincarnates into new bodies and watches over Alexiel's new lives over the years. The cycle has been finally broken when kira killed Alexiel's last reincarnation mercifully. (*drool....* hes so hot!!!! and yes, I DO think that anime characters are hot! >.< *heart heart* ah.... Kira! *faints*)

Katou Yue:
Katou is a friend of Kira. He is very screwed up at home, being kicked out, and thus forth turning to drugs and alcohol to make his life better and make himself relieved of his surroundings. Although Kira tries to convince him to choose another path he does not listen. After when Rosiel awakens he takes possession of Katou's body and attacks Kira. Setsuna awakens momentarily and slashes him with his sword. However, Rosiel leaves Katou's body and Setsuna ends up killing Katou other than Rosiel. His body ended up in Hades, where Setsuna later went to retrieve Sara's soul. In Hades, Katou gets killed and (just how can you kill a person who's already dead...?) Setsuna goes into his memories and pulls him back, saving his life. Afterwards, Uriel recreates a body for Katou, and he travels to Hell later on to help Setsuna.

Ruri Saiki:
Ruri was Sara's best friend. She was also in love with Setsuna. She asked for Sara's help to get close to Setsuna. Katan attacked part of the Chapel in order to bring out Alexiel, and Setsuna leaped onto Sara to protect her. While Ruri was unprotected, and her eyes badly damaged. After Ruri realised that Setsuna will only love Sara, she spends most of her time in front of the computer playing the game Angel Sanctuary, which offered to make her see again. Rosiel used her body to kill Sara when she was at Ruri's house. But when Sara told her that she was willing to die if that would make her friend happy, Ruri snapped out of it for a while and told her that Rosiel was the one doing all her actions. She would never kill Sara, and ends up saving Sara in the end when Kirie was attacking them.

Alexiel - The Organic Angel:
One of the most powerful angels in all of the heavens along with her twin brother Rosiel. She is also said to be the child of Adam Kadamon. She has 3 wings. When she was up in heaven she was in love with God, but Rosiel was his beloved angel. Then one day God disappears, during this time Alexiel leads a rebellion against heaven, but loses. Rosiel had begged her that before he had gone through the "changes", he wants to be killed by Alexiel since he knew what was to become of him if he ever did change. But during the war, Rosiel demanded why Alexiel would want to kill her own brother, and she lost the strength to do so. Before she was captured she sealed Rosiel in earth instead of killing him. Her punishment was that she was to be imprisoned in a crystal and totally inanimate while her soul is trapped forever in an endless of reincarnations and always die a horrible death until the end of the world.

Rosiel - The Inorganic Angel:
He is the younger twin of the 2, and also the opposite of her. He's inorganic, male, and "negative". His beauty is very well known in Heaven, but he does not have the power to stand up to Alexiel. Rosiel realised that when his body starts deteriorating, his mind wouldn't hold out much longer. He begged for Alexiel to kill him when it happened, so that he cannot swallow up the world in his hunger for power. Alexiel found herself unable to kill him, and instead sealed him away in the earth, where Katan later found and revived him. Rosiel is cold, and wants to be loved by his sister and to be called beautiful. Katan wants him to re-organize heaven which is currently under the ruling of Sevotharte, and is making Heaven chaotic. But instead, Rosiel wants to search for his sister and to awake her current incarnation.

(Rosiel used to be this really ugly THING when he was born. But Alexiel begged God to give him his own body, which will be born from Alexiel's, as beautiful as she was. The price God demanded from Alexiel was to harden her heart and to never show any emotion towards her younger brother. Alexiel agreed. Up till now, she still kept her promise she made to god.)

Zaphikiel:
Zaphikiel was the chief of the Thrones (A highly ranked angel). He was branded a fallen angel once because he killed his beloved Anael. Which was a set-up by Sevotharte in order to have more control over Zaphie-kun. (Sevi didn't put him in trial, instead, he made a scar with his own hands on Zaphikiel's chest, so that he will always remember the dept that he owns Sevi.) Just when Zaphie-kun tried to commit suicide by slitting his throat, Adam Kadamon appeared and stopped him of doing so. But Adam Kadamon's radiance blinded Zaphikiel. Zaphie was also the leader of the underground group called "Anima Mundi". His goal was to seek evidence to prove that Sevi is not who he says to be. He then sacrificed himself trying to save Setsuna from being rained upon gunfire. (Ok... ready... to... kill... Setsuna... any... second... now...!) He was brought to a prison and there got his wings cut off. Before Zaphie died, he gave Raziel the leadership of "Anima Mundi". He also left the evidence to Uriel who later used this evidence to reveal Sevi's true self at the trial of Jibrille/Sara.

Raziel:
Raziel is the son of Zaphikiel, which he later finds out when Zaphie-kun is about to die. But before that, he was just known as Zaphkikiel's understudy. He spends most of his childhood in a laboratory being experimented over and over again because of his "abnormal" powers. Zaphikiel saves him by taking him away and treats him kindly. He dedicated himself to Zapkikiel and decides to join the rebel angel's faction- Anima Mundi. Raziel's also an Ion, an angel born from the union between the forbidden love of two angels (Zaphie + Anael). And because of that, he has special powers (he seems to be able to control others, against their will), his eyes turns red everytime he uses his power. He is sent to Hell in order to aid Setsuna. And he's very talented in tea-making...

Katan:
Rosiel's "son". He was once a Grigori who had no physical form. Rosiel creates a body for him, and for that, Katan is very grateful to Rosiel. He worked his way up to the top layer of heaven in order to be close to Rosiel. Katan eventually became a Cherubim, a member of one of the highest ranks of angels. Katan is the one who used "Angel Sanctuary" to suck people's energy to revive Rosiel from his curse. Rosiel considers him of one of his most beautiful creations. Katan is very fond of Rosiel but doesn't always agree to Rosiel's actions. He continuously refuses to take Rosiel's pill because he doesn't like the way Rosiel controls people, saying: If you feed me your feather, you'll loose the only person who obeys you faithfully.

Anael:
She was the lover of Zaphikiel and Laila's best friend. She was part of the Sandalphon project, where they created 2 twins: Metatron and Sandalphon, the follow-up project of Alexiel and Rosiel. She quit the project because she felt that Sandalphon was evil. Zaphikiel killed Anael as a set-up by Sevotharte. She was tied up in a room with a "hari" in her neck. Because of that "hari", Anael wasn't able to call out to Zaphikiel. He thought Anael was someone else, like a low-ranked angel or something, so he killed her without knowing it was Anael that he was actually killing.

Laila:
She was the leader of the Sandalphon project. Because she had the most beautiful voice in Heaven, she often sang to Sandalphon. Her best friend was Anael, Zaphikiel's lover. However, Laila was also in love with him. During the Sandalphon project, she rose to a very high status, many people envied her. A group of men raped her. Nydd Hogg, who was secretly in love with Laila was there when the raping happened. Laila, partly insane, blamed Nydd Hogg for just being there (what a b****!), even though he was TOTALLY innocent. Although laila was a victim, she was marked on her forehead with the brand of the fallen angel: "Lilith". Desperated, Laila went to Sandalphon for help to destroy the ones involved in the "incident", guilty or not. She then asks to be erased, Sandalphon grants her wish and turns her into Sevotharte. She does not remember her life as Laila, so Savi, a dictator of Heaven caused the death of Anael and Zaphikiel (ok, I'm getting SUPER pissed right now). Sandalphon raped Laila/Sevi afterwards (man...what a life, so many rapings...), because he's in desperate need of a body. When she was about to go insane, the spirit of Nydd Hogg visited her, and told her that he does not blame her for his death. Laila then committed suicide by throwing herself out the window, killing the baby with her.

Kirie:
A very low ranked angel. A ST trainee who was deeply in love with Rosiel and will do anything that Rosiel tells her to. She does not realize that Rosiel was just using her to achieve what he wanted. Kirie's mission was to kill Sara, which she succeeded on doing so, but out of grief, Setsuna unleashed his power which destroyed his surroundings, including Kirie. Her soul wandered to Hades where Uriel finds her and puts her into the body of Doll. She does not remember anything from her past life.

Raphael:
The angel of wind. He's a womanizer who spends most of his time dating and sleeping with girls who has nice bodies. Raphael's also the best healer, or rather, the ONLY healer there is. He would only treat woman with pretty faces, and sleeping with him in return. It would be rather hard to convince him to even treat a man. Raphie-kun is forced by Uriel to perform the resurrection spell on Setsuna's body after he dies. He later resurrects Sara's body. After knowing Sara, Raphie-kun believes that he is in love with her, but later discovers that he loves Barbiel even more.

Michael:
The angel of Fire. He's really short and has a really bad temper. Anyone who mentions his height or his brother Lucifer would have to suffer the consequences of his temper. Raphael's the only one who seems to be able to control him. He hates girls and seems to go out of his way to make them miserable, unlike Raphie-kun. His pride for his demon hunting is higher than the CN Tower and he gets SUPER pissed when people calls him Mika-chan ^^!

Adam Kadamon:
Adam is the first angel created by god. A genderless angel who is imprisoned in the Tower of Etemenaki. She/he is said to be the one who holds the ancient powers that are of neither light nor dark and the one known to possess the power to stop time, but we later discover that Rosiel and Alexiel/Setsuna has this power as well. Before earth is about to be destroyed, Adam appears and stops time. She/he is the one who saved Zaphikiel from committing suicide. The reason why he is imprisoned in Etemenaki is because he stopped God from destroying Humanity and God got furious and locked him/her up. Bleh!!! that's not it, the reason is more complicated then a: "god locked him/her up". TRUST ME! (but it's too long to write the whole thing down, sorry, I'm trying to keep this short...

Jibrille/Gabriel:
The angel of Water. She worked against Sevi when she was "alive" (It's not like she is dead... just an empty body without a soul). Because Metatron was obsessed with Jibrille, she became a threat to Sevi, who wanted to rule over heaven. To get rid of Jibrille, Sevi placed a "hari" in Jibrille's neck to force her soul to incarnate into human bodies as Alexiel's soul's Guardian Angel. Sara happens to be the latest reincarnation of Jibrille, so in a sense, she's been spying on Setsuna without knowing that she was doing so. When Metatron pulls out the "hari" from Jibrille's neck, Sara's soul returns to her true body. However, Jibrille only has the memory of her current reincarnation, Sara, she does not remember her life as Jibrille. Sara later returns to her human body with the help of Raphael.

Uriel:
The angel of Earth. He has the one thing that every angel feared, the cursed black wings. Uriel was the judgement-maker and was in love with Alexiel. Out of anger after being rejected, Uriel delivered the harshest punishment there was, having her body and soul separated followed by eternal reincarnation each life doomed to die a violent death. He destroyed his vocal cords as a punishment for himself. (Somehow, powerful angels like Zaphie, Uriel, etc has a habit of cutting their throats... *-*) He now lives in Hades with Doll. Uriel recreates a body out of plant cells for Katou and also brings Setsuna back to life by forcing Raphael to revive his body.

Sevothtarte:
Known as the "White Angel" because he's always wearing white outfits, his hair is white (and long) and his skin is SUPER pale. Since Metatron is only 3 years old, and the fact that Sevi is Metatron's guardian, he somehow became the ruler of heaven. Sevi is a dictator, and is making heaven chaotic. Sevi is in process of making heaven flawless, he kills angels that are not 100 percent perfect. (Haven't we always heard our parents and friends say: it's impossible to achieve perfection? I guess no one ever told Sevi that...) He hides his face behind a mask because of a mark, and anyone who's unlucky enough to see it dies hastily. At the trial of Jibrille/Sara, Uriel brings out the evidence that proves Sevi to be the Fallen Angel of Laila. Soon later insanity drives Sevi to commit suicide by jumping out the window.

Metatron:
He is this annoying, annoying, annoying kid. All he ever does is ask for Sevi or Jibrille or he'll surround himself with stuffed animals. He's the highest angel in rank after god disappeared. And if he ever DOES grow up, he'll be in charge of heaven. Metatron is the one with the body out of the 2. Sandalphon is sealed within his mind and talks to him through Mr. Bunny. Although he's whiny and selfish, he looks So0o0o0o cute in his PJs ^^.

Sandolphon:
He is the twin brother of Metatron. He's this ugly, ugly thing you see on the left. He looks rather like a bat than a baby. Sandolphon is the one with the real power and claims to be most powerful, after god. Sandolphon is in desperate need of a body and will do anything to get it. He raped countless girls in order to impregnate them and have them create a body for him. Sandolphon is the one who helped Laila "erase" herself and created Sevi. He is eventually released from his seal and has possesses Metatron's body.

Moonliel/Lily:
Her name was given to her by Sara, because Lily kept on bringing her this plant called Moonliel, but she likes to by called Lily. She was once a Grigori. However, unlike Katan, she was given a body to be a maid in Sevi's castle (which is also white T.T). Her mind is impaired, she is mentally incapable of thinking of rebelling or disobeying against their creator.

Kurai:
Kurai is a demon from Gehenna, one of the races of "Evil". She is a Dragon Master. The last of her kind before the Angels came and slaughtered her entire family with the exception of her cousin Arakune. She is extremely loyal to Alexiel who saved her life. Kurai and Arakune set off to earth in search of Alexiel's reincarnated body, eventually they find Setsuna. At first Kurai cares for Setsuna but soon grows to love Setsuna for himself. Mad Hatter, taking the advantage of Kurai's love, tells her that she will revive Setsuna's body if Kurai is willing to be the 999th bride (which is actually 999th pure-blooded person to be fed to Lucifer) for Lucifer. Kurai agrees, but in the end, Arakune takes the plunge in order to protect her. Kurai takes responsibility of Arakune's death and swears that she will lead her people to fight against the Angels.

Arakune:
He (yes it's a HE) is the cross-dressing cousin of Kurai. Arakune is the only surviving family Kurai has left, and he watches over her as a sort of "older sister". Later in the story, we discover that Arakune is really Kurai's older brother but he seeks revenge because their father used him as the decoy in order to protect Kurai. When assassins attack, they attacked him thinking that he may be the next Dragon Master but it is really Kurai. When Arakune discovered that he was a decoy he was filled with sadness and Belial sensed this and came. Arakune soon chooses to serve under her with the identity of his dead cousin, Arakune. Throughout the rest of the story he may seem to hate Kurai, but he really truly cares a great deal for Kurai and ends up saving her life and dies in her place. Becoming one of Lucifer's "brides".

Lucifer:
The lord of hell. Once called Lucifel before he fell. He is the older twin brother of Michael and is MUCH taller than him. You might have recognized his name from the Bible. Yes, his character in AS is almost the same as the one in the Bible, the morning star. After he fell, his body became one with the grounds of Sheol. So whatever happens to his body, it happens to the grounds. For some unknown reason, his body started to expand, and in order to stop it from getting any bigger, they have to sacrifice (feed) pure, innocent brides to Lucifer. His body now is only an empty shell without a soul. A long time ago, a mysterious guy in black cloak/cape/shirt wearing a black mask... basically totally in black came to hell and took Lucifer's soul. The only thing that the mysterious guy said was "the time of our agreement has come. For now, rest in peace, Lucifiel." He had entered so effortlessly as the rows of guards were powerless against him. (*hint hint* The mysterious guy is actually himself. Quite a shock, nee?) And just like he came, he went in a gust of wind. Later on, we discover that Kira is the one who now possesses Lucifer's soul. Lucifer has 4 wings, this should tell you how powerful he was in Heaven as opposed to there is only 3 angels other than him who has more than 2 wings: Adam Kadamon- 6, Alexiel- 3 and Rosiel- 3. I could go on talking about Lucifer for DAYZ, but unfortunately I have to leave room for the other characters. He is A LOT MORE than just The Lord of Hell. Lucifiel-sama is so0o0o0o0o0o kool!!! Maybe I'll dediacte a page just for him...MaYbE...

Mad Hatter/Belial:
She represents Pride of the Seven Satans. When she was in heaven, she pumped herself full of drugs so that her body wouldn't fully develop into a female body. She was given the name Belial, which means Worthless and she does her best to be the most useful worthless being she can. But now the only who is allowed to call her that is Lucifer. Mad Hatter disillusions Raphael about the “purity” of angels and that's why Raphael now treats women like dirt. She is totally in love with Lucifer, because he is the only man who doesn't want her, calling her the "rotten and poisonous butterfly".

Barbelo:
She represents Wrath of the Seven Satans. She was in love with Lucifer in heaven. In the rebellion against god, Barbelo threw herself in the path of Michael's flame in order to protect Lucifer from being stroke at. Before Lucifer fell, he took Barbelo with him to hell and from there she became one of the Seven Satans. She still loves Lucifer very much and later on dies trying to stop Setsuna from entering Atziluth.

Asmodeus:
He represents Lust of the Seven Satans and is deeply in love with the butterfly, Belail. Asmodeus has 3 heads, 1 of human and 2 animals'. He's in his mid-40's and likes to sleep with women just as much as Raphael does. Asmodeus is the one who agreed to sneak Alexiel/Setsuna in to the wedding ceremony of Lucifer's 999th bride, the reason he gave for this was to piss off Belial -.-

Astaroth:
She/he represents Sloth of the Seven Satans. She/he is a failure of god, for god was trying to create another being like Adam Kadamon. This body occupy 2 souls, 1 of Astarte the sister, the other as the brother Astaroth. Lucifer helped them become separated by when Astarte is in use of the body, Astaroth becomes the black snake on her neck. And when Astaroth is in the body, Astarte is the white snake. The brother despises Astarte and keeps on killing her babies that she swallows to fill up her stomach. She tries to turn Kurai into one of her babies but is killed by Prince Abaddon (the son of Lucifer with another bride). Astarte used her last remaining strength chanting a spell that can turn herself into the snake and leaving her brother the body so he can live on normally.

Voice:
The twin brother of Noise and is in love with Princess Kurai. He has one wing whereas Noise has the other. Voice doesn't like Setsuna and can't seem to see why Kurai is so obsessed with him. He accidentally pulls out the Nanatsusaya out of Setsuna's body and therefore forcing Setsuna's spirit to go into Alexiel's body for a while. Voice held a lot of prejudices, but he then realized that Setsuna is the true Messiah. Arakune finally kills him when he accidentally lurched into his shrine to Lucifer.

Noise:
She is the older sister of the 2 twins and is very loyal to Kurai. She was once under Mad Hatter's control when she marked Noise the sign of the Demon Lord. One of the demons (a bird/monster/big head thing) was in her body and was killing their people for a while. After Voice's death, She vows revenge on the killer (Arakune) and went to Sheol with Setsuna with the suspicion of Arakune being the killer. She gets her revenge at last when Arakune offers herself to be the 999th bride.

Doll:
A creation of Uriel, she is a servant to Uriel. But Doll loves Uriel deeply, and would do anything for him. Uriel created her when he saw Sara, so Doll looks the same as Sara except with black hair and in a maid outfit. Doll's body is placed with the soul of Kirie, but she does not remember her past life. Her body stops working very often because it is still (as I say it): immature, so it has to be rewinded with a little switch on her back... ~.~ The name fits her well.

Nydd Hogg:
He was once an angel in heaven who was and still is in love with Laila. But due to Laila's insanity, she accused him as a part of raping and branded him a Fallen Angel. Uriel finds him and makes him the dragon-like monster you see now. Nydd Hogg volunteered to bring Setsuna back to Gehenna. Before he is about to die, he gives Setsuna this seed that embodies the voice of Laila. Setsuna is told to find Laila and tell her that Nydd Hogg never blamed her for what she did. Nydd Hogg's spirit later visited Laila when she is about to die.

Enra-ou:
He is the guardian of Hades. He's this old man with about a dozen faces on one head... he looks more like a statue. Enra-ou guards the souls in Hades and seals them into this jar. He is the one who tricks Katou by giving him this cloak that emits his energy to attract ghouls (which Katou doesn't know at the time or else like hell he will take that cloak). Enra-ou is still the guardian and forever he will be.
